Somebody tell me where the summer went!

I can’t believe Sturgis is already upon us.  I think our summer up here in the north country seemed to go a little faster because of the cold wet spring we had.  The weather would just not let up at all, so once it got nice we try to cram as much fun into a short period of time as we can.

I actually got the chance to take a few days off over the 4th and got some miles under my butt down in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin…..

Here we are at Poopy's! Great food and awesome folks!

Poopy’s was an unexpected surprise on this trip, I had never heard of it and everywhere we went people were telling us to go there.  I can’t believe how busy it was.  The food was great not to mention the live music and witty T-shirts.

From there we went down to the American Pickers store and let my buddy Randy poke around.  He is a big fan of the show  and is a bit of an antique archaeologist himself.  He is the ugly one…..

One of the most interesting places on our trip was Galena, IL  http://www.cityofgalena.org/    This is a great place for food, history and a little shopping for the lady folks.  We spent a couple of days here checking out what the area had to offer and it was perfect.  The roads in the area, although a little rough at times provided amazing scenery and ample entertainment.

Just one shot of downtown Galena.

Another great ride in Wisconsin is the Wildcat Mountain State Park..  http://www.stateparks.com/wildcat_mountain.html   Great riding, lots of twist’s perfect scenery.  We got the chance to stop at some Amish farms and meet the locals, very relaxing.

So now we are off to Sturgis!  Make sure you stop by and see us if you are in the area. Remember we are in Spearfish right off of I90 at Outdoor Motorsports.  They are the large Honda dealer on the frontage road.  http://www.outdoor-motorsports.com/  We will have plenty of inventory and look forward to meeting all that stop by.

Have a great summer and safe riding season!

See you on the Road….

The New K-9 Caddy is here!

July 14, 2011

The New K9 Caddy is now available from Road Dog Trailers.  http://www.roaddogtrailers.com/trailers_K9_Caddy.asp.  It is the largest of the 3 pet hauler’s in our new line up and one of the most versatile.

The Caddy Features a whopping 20 cubic ft of storage.  It has a fold down divider so you can carry your cargo up front and your best friend in the back.  On the rare occasion you do not take your buddy, the divider folds down for a complete cargo trailer.

The Caddy also has an Ocean rated Bomar top hatch that is totally adjustable and watertight.  You can lock it in an upright windshield position or a lower venting position depending on your dog and travelling conditions.  It also features a solar-powered vent to keep fresh air coming in at all times along with two side slider windows to keep your best friend cool and comfortable.

It is available in black or white.  White is the most common color for obvious reasons but we have had a few custom colors as well.  Mark Eugene ordered one to match his 2010 HD Tri-Glide.  Now he can take his photography equipment as well as his four-legged assistant.

You can see a little more of this unit along with the specs etc and a few more photos at our website..http://www.roaddogtrailers.com/trailers_K9_Caddy.asp  and see if this Road Dog is for you.  Enjoy!

See you on the Road!

The “All New” Rally Wagon from Road Dog!

April 14, 2011

So here it is…the new Rally Wagon!   This one has been in the works for quite a while.   Being all aluminum this trailers is extremely light and durable. It features our world famous Torsion suspension along with the standard LED lighting, stainless fenders, cooler rack etc….

The cargo area is more contained than the previous model.  We eliminated the bag and came up with an optional snap on tonneau cover that has a zipper down the middle.  This allows cargo to come in and out with very little interference.   The cover is not waterproof but it does keep the most of the weather off your gear especially if you carry your gear in good quality duffel bags and water proof containers.

This trailer is especially great for the budget conscious.  its great for any size of motorcycle- It is very light weight (115lbs) It will haul most of what you need for touring, camping or running errands.  It will list for roughly 1495.00  and will have a number of options like- Wide tires- tonneau cover-chrome coupler- powder coated frame and more.

Specifications:

Height- 29″                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Cargo Length- 60″                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Cargo width- 28″                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Overall Length- 94″                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Overall width-45″                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Weight 115lbs

The New “K9 Caddy”

February 22, 2011

Here is the second in a series of three Pet haulers from Road Dog.  Forgive me for the rough pictures but I get a lot of pressure from folks who want to see what it looks like.

This is the K9 Caddy.  This particular model is for larger dogs (up to 80 lbs)  It has some pretty unique features that make it a good choice for those who cannot travel without there best friend.

Side slider windows and an adjustable top hatch.

The top hatch is a ocean rated Bomar marine hatch that is water tight and adjustable from the closed position to a windshield position or any     where in between.   The side slider windows open up to 2 inches and have screens that are removable.

The K9 also features LED lighting, polished aluminum lower unit, aluminum wheels and a cooler rack as standard equipment.

Custom Aluminum wheels and Polished stainless fenders.

Our Road Dog suspension is great for pet haulers because of  its superior performance characteristics.  The Torsion arm is so responsive it allows the suspension to absorb a good amount of shock with minimal cargo movement.

Polished Aluminum lower unit.

The polished lower unit adds looks and visibility to this trailer.  When the lid is up it shows a dual cargo area so you can haul a Dog and cargo or if you wish you can fold down the divider and use it for all dog or all cargo.

Side slider windows allow more visibility and greater ventilation.

Dual storage area for dog and Cargo.

The K9 is available in Black as seen here or in white ( most popular)  Thanks for looking, more pics on the way….                                                                  Karl

Road Dog’s New Camper the “Road House”

January 17, 2011

So here we are in a brand new year and ready to do it all over again.  First of all we would like to thank all of our wonderful customers who joined the Road Dog family this last year welcome all who are about to come aboard.

This particular issue is about our new 2 person camper.  The Road House!  We are especially excited about this new trailer because we have been evaluating designs for the last 2-3 years and finally have something that we think a lot of people will enjoy.   So take a look and let us know what you think….

There is one common truth when it comes to pulling a small camping trailer (regardless of brand)  behind your motorcycle or small car.  If you are not camping you are not using it. It is that simple.  It is tough to run errands or go golfing if you have a camper behind you.  Sometimes you need just the trailer and its abilities, minus the camper.  So here is what we have done….

This is the Road House trailer in its “Trailer” mode.  It features all aluminum construction and is very Simple, low profile and lightweight with plenty of cargo space.   (Specs are   48″ Wide    21″ Tall and  60″ Long)

Now if you wanted to go camping and not just sleep in a tent but actually sleep off the ground and have space for your cargo as well…you could add the camping feature as needed…..

Now that you have your camping unit installed…in roughly 15 seconds…you are                                  ready to camp….just drop the leveling legs and set it up….  This process takes only                              a minute or two…

Now you are ready to camp….Interior dimensions are 7 feet long and 56 wide…more than enough for a full size air mattress if you prefer. The Road House also features entrance and exits on both ends for easy in and out.  The unit is completely self supporting…NO STAKES…NO POLES AND NO STRINGS…..and you still have access to your cargo at all times….whether your camper is set up or not….

Here is a shot of the interior……..

The main advantage this camper has over any other is its versatility!  you can go camping or you can just use the trailer. It has ample sleeping quarters and weighs less than 300l lbs.  The low profile design keeps it straight and stable and lets you go anywhere and anyplace in style.

Now when you are done camping just pull two pins and remove the camper and go ahead and enjoy your Road Dog for any purpose you desire…

Thanks again for taking a look at the new Road House…..It will be on the website soon and be          available for shipping in Late March.

Let me know what you think or go to  http://www.roaddogtrailers.com/ to see our full  line             of touring trailers.  We are adding models all the time so stay tuned.

Thanks again,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Karl Road Dog Trailers.

Back From Sturgis!

August 26, 2010

So the 70th anniversary of Sturgis has come and gone.  Wow! What a great year.  The weather was great although a little hot at times it was great for riding the black hills.   From our perspective attendance was way up.   Watching the local news in Rapid City confirmed that with live reports from downtown Sturgis.  Beer sales were up as well as attendance records at all the big biker bars like the Full Throttle and One Eyed Jacks.

We were located out in Spearfish as usual.  We are always at Outdoor Motorsports the local Honda dealer. http://www.outdoor-motorsports.com/default.asp We had a great turnout as usual.   Customers new and old from all over the USA and Canada came out to greet us.

These folks were on their way back home to Minnesota.  They were coming from Alaska and just wanted to stop and tell us how happy they were with their Road Dog.  They all looked pretty rough but happy and none the worse for wear.  The stickers you see inside the hood are places they had been on there cross country trek.

Here is one with a famous “Easy Rider” icon that everybody just loved.   All the creativity that our customers apply to these trailers is an unexpected pleasure that comes with building these units.   Everyday customer after customer would show up and shake my hand and tell me stories of the time on the road with their Road Dog and how happy they are that the chose our trailers to take along on their journey.

So thanks to all you” Road Dog”s that stopped by.  You have all made this a great experience and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.  Remember to always ride safe and we will see you on the road….
